A Global University Project

It's true. University and college students do have the "ideal" life. We share rooms with our friends, and have our own little, segmented communities. We are learning the secrets of the universe, developing our minds into powerful tools that can do anything we want. We have everything we need within walking distance of our rooms (well, mostly) and we don't even have to cook for ourselves. On top of it all, we are in a highly concentrated area of prospective mates. Could anything be easier? I say "heck yes it can be easier!"
The reason for saying this is simply that there are many stereotypes surrounding university students and the like. Most of them either stating how lucky we are, or how reckless we are. I'd like to remind everyone that there is only one way to get accurate information... The source! Of course we don't live perfect lives, we aren't allowed hot-plates and public showers and bathrooms SUCK. Have you ever eaten at meal hall? Or should I more accurately ask if you've ever taken vice- grips to your stomache and pesticide to your tastebuds? As far as University being a "dating connection" dream on. It's just as hard here as it is everywhere else, the only difference is that we don't have to travel very far to get shot down (by the decent ones).
It's fine and good to try and use an article such as this to dispell such stereotypes, but what if we had a way to give the rest of the world a first-hand look at our lives as students? Well, now we can. The website www.Res-Rants.com is on the hunt for college students willing to give an account of a campus related mishap. Any sort of prank, any drunken night, and any thing school related (humor is a virtue). These stories are all going to be compiled into one large ebook to be sold on the internet. The best part of the whole deal is that by submitting your story, you are ensuring yourself a free copy of the finished product. Better yet is that all of the money brought in off of the ebook is going towards publishing costs to get it turned into an honest-to-god book. This is a great opportunity for us to show the rest of the world how things REALLY are. More importantly it's a chance to produce something as a collective, as a unified mass, that is representative to our fun- loving, mischievous ways.

Why Slovakia is Hot For International Property Investors

It's rare for me to get excited about a new emerging market but I believe Slovakia is worth getting excited about. Real estate investors seeking new frontiers to invest in international real estate should get on the internet right now and start to research the prospects that the Eastern European country offers.

Despite the global slowdown that has reduced confidence in many European housing markets it seem Slovakia remains an attractive proposition to investors.

During 2008 Slovakia's economy has been one of the bright spots in Eastern Europe this year, and it is expected to come in at over 7 percent growth for the year. While the country's central bank and other analysts have lowered the forecast for growth in 2009, it is still expected to be near 5 percent or even above that amount. That will make it one of the strongest economies in Europe.

Slovakian real estate prices are still low compared to other European countries and leave plenty of room for capital growth. The only restriction Slovakia has imposed on the purchase of real estate by overseas buyers is on agricultural and forestry land.

The Slovakian government demonstrates its forwarding thinking by its approach to renewable energy. Slovakia is looking at solar energy as a means to provide the country with clean, renewable energy resources. The country has two solar power plants in the works in Rimavska Sobata and Orechova Poton.

The country has a small but growing economy focused on automobiles, electronics and construction. The slowdown in Europe will affect the exports of these products, but they should still see solid growth, according to experts. The country will officially adopt the euro as its currency at the beginning of 2009, which will lock in lower interest rates and is expected to help boost the economy.

Bratislava's M.R. Stefanik Airport (BTS) is set for expansion, which will help the growing country and the capital area. The airport is the main international destination in Slovakia and is 12 kilometers to the northeast of downtown Bratislava. The airport currently serves over 2 million travellers , which is an increase of 700% since 2001. The airport is served by several low cost companies, including Ryanair and SkyEurope, which has helped to grow in the past several years. Other companies that fly here include Aeroflot, Lufthansa, Air Slovakia and Czech Airlines, plus a number of charter carriers which are in service mostly during the summer holiday season.

In addition to its main industry, travel and tourism are taking an increasingly important share in Slovakia's economy. The capital city of Bratislava is a growing hub of culture as well as being the focus of political and economic life. It has many museums and cultural festivals every year that draw in thousands of visitors. The National Gallery is the largest and most well known art museum in the country.

Outside of the capital city, the many small towns have plenty of old and interesting buildings for visitors to explore and enjoy. The country's location between Vienna and Eastern Europe means it has a wide range of buildings constructed over the past 1,000 years. Influences include the Austro-Hungarian Empire as well as the Ottomans. Castles, churches and countless old towns and villages are a history lovers' dream.

The outdoors also offers plenty of attractions for those who visit Slovakia. The country has several beautiful national parks as well as mountains, valleys, forests and rivers to explore. The Tatra Mountains in the northern part of the country offer great scenery and the most visited national park, the High Tatras or Vysoke Tatry. There is skiing, mountain climbing, hiking and lots of natural wonders to see. Other parks have more to offer, including forests, rivers and caves for explorers.

It seems that the case for investing property in Slovakia is a solid one but like any investment their is always an element of risk, however Slovakia is definitely ticking all the right boxes.

Think Globally - Drink Locally

Green Beer - It's not just for St. Patrick's Day anymore.

Can drinking locally brewed beer, rather than massed produced beer save the planet? Probably not, but there are some benefits beyond drinking better beer. We make our beer choices based on what our tastes prefer…and rightfully so. However, if you're interested in the green movement, being eco-friendly, sustainability, and the like, locally brewed beer is a much better choice than a mass produced beer that was made far away.

The "greenest" option for beer is to drink the one that is brewed closest to your current location, and is served on tap. Draft beer is packaged and shipped in re-usable kegs, plus it's served in glasses that are re-used, rather than bottles that typically end up in a landfill. Locally brewed beer dramatically cuts down on the amount of fuel consumption and pollution created by shipping beer across the country. They say an average beer travels over 1,000 miles from the brewery to your mug. That's a lot of beer miles!

Another green option for local breweries is the use of "growlers". A growler is a re-usable half-gallon glass jug. Many brew pubs and microbreweries will sell you a growler of beer to take home that you can bring back for repeated refills, typically at a discounted price. Make sure you clean your growler well before getting it refilled. Hot water alone works best, because soap can leave behind residue that will ruin your beer. Beer doesn't keep well in a growler, so try to drink it within a few days of purchase.

If you don't have a local brewery that makes beer to your satisfaction, you could take drinking locally brewed beer a step further, and brew your own. Drinking local beer won't save the planet, but it will help. Since even the small steps we take to save the environment are important, think globally by drinking locally. Worst-case scenario is you'll find some really great local beer, and keep your money in the local economy.

Fighting Global Warming

There are multiple lists of tips on how to reduce global warming. Many of these tips are really common knowledge now and even before saving the planet was cool, some of these tips were presented as ways to save money. Tips such as weatherizing your home, insulating the hot water heater and taking a shower instead of a bath were all money saving tips before they were tips on fighting global warming.

There are so many other ways people can fight global warming on their own small scale and in their day to day lives. All it takes is a small idea to get the ball rolling into a large movement.

For instance, one very large concern is water bottles. Everybody knows those will sit in a landfill forever. There has been a movement recently for people to purchase a reusable bottle and refill their own water at home instead of continuing to purchase cases of bottled water.

Eating and buying food is another area where global warming can be fought. It is not often thought of as a place where this can be done but looking at it, one can see where it would be a viable place to do just that. Purchase food locally. Many big cities and even small towns have farmer's markets where produce can be bought. These foods have not traveled across the country to wind up in the local large chain stores but are grown locally and brought to the market with much less fuel used to get it there. An added bonus is if the locally grown food is organic because that means the farmers are not using chemicals to grow the foods that wind up in our bodies, our water supply and in the ground.

Of any tip a person can use, the most important one is making your voice heard. Talk about global warming and what you are doing to fight it. Invite your friends, family and co-workers to join you in some small changes that can make a big impact. Let your lawmakers know that you want what is best for the planet and encourage them to fight with you by passing helpful legislation.

With new ways to fight global warming being discovered and used every day and making changes in your day to day life, there will be so many benefits to the planet as a whole. Encouraging others will further the cause and make the movement stronger.

If you want to help the fight against global warming help support the Dot Eco initiative to establish the .eco top level domain. This new initiative powered by Dot Eco LLC, will donate over 50% of domain registration proceeds back to fund scientific initiatives and research in climate change, ocean analysis, economic policy, and other environmentally-related areas. Travel To England - A Setting Sun, A Dawning Era

The sun may have set on the English Empire of history books, but by no means is England's worldly cultural influence waning. The cosmopolitan hot-spots of sophisticated London and avant-garde Manchester speak to the global future while the Roman remnants in Bath and Celtic heritage at Stonehenge stand as monumental tributes to a time past but not forgotten.

Experience England

Culinary Intrigue
The Brits may not traditionally be known, or even praised, for their gastronomic heritage; however, England has recently experienced a culinary renaissance of sorts and can proudly boast 14 of the world's top 50 restaurants. Erase thoughts of porridge and stodge - the British dining experience has abandoned its starchy past and embarked on a journey through multicultural and international cuisine, particularly in the South. England's colonial history comes forth in London's exquisite choice of Indian restaurants. Despite this new food wave, make sure not to pass on the Yorkshire pudding and Beef Wellington when traveling through the North, which offers exceptional renditions of more traditional dishes.
From London to Land's End

Upon arrival in the English region of this massive island, it is important to include travel outside of London for the full British experience. England's most southwestern tip of Cornwall is home to the legendary sea-cliffs below Penzance and the dramatic peninsula of Land's End where a 25 mile trail will take you along some of the most beautiful stretches of ocean. Cornwall is also known for its architectural landmarks, including Cotehele, a most impressive Tudor mansion and museum along the river Tamar. Travel northeast to encounter ancient towns nestled in the picturesque countryside of The Cotswolds. This region is extremely popular for a glimpse into the idyllic English lifestyle with its 14th century stone and thatched roof cottages and cobblestone alleys. Keep in mind that the southern regions are heavily traveled in the months of July and August by locals and foreigners alike due to the warmer weather.

Farther north, the ancient spa town of Bath is famous for the 2000 year-old Roman bathhouses, which are still open to the public, in addition to Saxon ruins and the history of local Christianity told by the Heritage Vaults. Shakespeare buffs should not miss Stratford-upon-Avon, his home town located in the Midlands. Shakespeare and his family are buried at the Holy Trinity Church in the heart of town. While visiting the most northern regions, travel through York to see Europe's largest Gothic cathedral, York Minster, and walk along the immaculately preserved medieval street of The Shambles. Even more enchanting are the still-standing city walls that enclose a magical mix of history and modernity in a city that was once the Danish capital of Viking England.

A Region of Global Heritage
Aside from England's ancient history, no other nation has had such a hand in human progress in the modern era. At one time the English Empire encompassed stretches of the globe from Australia and India to Canada and America. England helped push the world stage into Industrial Revolution; the Midlands are home to the world's first industrial cities. The land of Chaucer, Shakespeare and Dickens, Saxons, Celts and Normans, is an intriguing and essential journey for anyone interested in the formation of contemporary global culture.

Winters - the most favorable season for traveling to India for medical and cosmetic treatments

India is a leading player in the medical tourism /healthcare facilitation industry and especially in cosmetic surgery cases. It has emerged as the most favorable treatment destination for people from world over because of its infrastructure and technology in which it is at par with hospitals in western countries. India has some of the best hospitals and treatment centers in the world with the latest facilities. What is more significant is that the costs are much less, lower by at least 60-80% when compared to similar procedures in countries in the west. Though India, the land of seasons, is worth visiting all year long, the best season for visiting India for various treatments is the winter season, starting from October, till March. Climate Change And Politcs: Global Warming Continues Due To Too Much Hot Air?

All the way back in January 2004 Sir David A. King, the Government’s then chief scientific adviser, described global warming, and the climate change that it drives, as a greater threat to the world than international terrorism. King, who caused quite a stir with his comments, said that industrialized countries had a commitment to place a serious effort into developing sustainable and carbon capture technologies.

Now, over four years on, the momentum that King called for has not materialized anywhere but in the showboating embroidery from our politicians and in the cynical green-washing from our captains of industry. The Kyoto agreement - which was widely seen as a last ditch attempt to press the greed and stupidity that drive climate change every just as much as the pollutants themselves - failed. Bush, in his enlightened wisdom, decided that further research into climate change was needed before carbon taxes could be introduced. Thus, 4% of the world’s population – America – continued to account for over one fifth of the world’s carbon emissions.

A successor to Kyoto is due to be thrashed out in 2009 amidst the lushly upholstered suites and complimentary coffee lined tables of Copenhagen’s most suitable venue: the greenhouse-like Copenhagen Congress Centre. The centre will, in a completely non-symbolic gesture, be powered by its very own wind turbine. So this time, you know they mean business.
The reassurance of a windmill and some serious political hyperbole and media speculation have not been enough to persuade the UN Secretary, General Ban Ki-moon, to let the international community rest upon their...well, success would be too strong a word, but the little bit that they have managed to achieve, until the Copenhagen climate deal.

General Ban Ki-moon, talking to the diplomats gathered to celebrate the anniversary of the UN climate panel, said that the politicians should aim to make some serious headway before then this December in Poznan, Poland.
The Kyoto Protocol, which will expire in 2012, has been largely seen as a complete failure in terms of reducing carbon emissions. 37 countries, all developed, signed the protocol, but there are some rather serious holes in the thing. For one, America and China have completely failed to impose any limits under Kyoto. For two, the carbon balance sheets ignore certain, little things. Like shipping and air travel. Whoops.

The fear caused by the knowledge that climate change is already affecting us has resulting in an increased impetus in the battle between action and continued inaction. The one hundred months campaign (http://www.onehundredmonths.org) for example, reckons that “We have 100 months to save the planet”, because after that we “could be beyond the climate’s ‘tipping point, the point of no return.’

Talking to Reuters, Ban Ki-moon suggested that the Poland meeting should serve as a “very successful bridge” for the later meetings in Copenhagen. It is encouraging that climate change has stopped being seen as a long term issue, and hopefully the immediacy of its effects will bring about a mature, effectual political response to the problem.

This Summer's Top Ten Must-See Travel Destinations

Every summer, it seems like there are several new lists of must-see travel destinations. The problem with this is, those destinations are usually exotic, expensive places that are spread out all over the world. That may be fine if you are someone with loads of cash who is not affected by the sagging global economy.

However, if you are one of the tens of thousands of average consumers who are really feeling the crunch, then you need a list of suggestions for fun, inexpensive travel destinations - after all, everyone deserves a vacation! This list will reveal the top ten must-see travel destinations all across the United States for summer 2009. These getaways will not break the bank, yet they have a lot of excitement to offer. Who knows, you might not need to look any further than your own proverbial back yard to have a good adventure!

1.) Orlando, Florida - Yes, it's the home of Disney World. Who can resist the big ears of Mickey Mouse, visiting with Cinderella, or going on a boat ride with the Pirates of the Caribbean? It's not surprising that Orlando is the top family travel destination, with its low prices and wide array of world-class entertainment. Even if you aren't interested in going to Disney World, or maybe you're a couple with no children, or a single person traveling with friends - there is something fun in Orlando for everyone. Cruise down to Old Town Orlando on Saturday night, take in a rock concert, tour the Daytona Speedway, or visit one of the nearby beaches.

2.) Atlanta, Georgia - It's another family-friendly vacation spot, with sights such as the Coca-Cola Museum (they offer free tours on certain days, and you can get free Coke!) and Six Flags over Georgia. Go for a thrilling ride on roller coasters like the Cyclone or the Ninja. Visit the CNN or the Weather Channel news headquarters. Go out to eat and taste the most fabulous, yet inexpensive, down-home Southern food. Atlanta is famous for being a hotbed of musicians and rappers, so go see one of the numerous local shows. Atlanta has a little something for everyone, and the prices there can't be beat.

3.) Las Vegas, Nevada - Even Las Vegas has some inexpensive fun for the family in one the city's many daytime magic shows or a Cirque Du Soleil event. At night time, though, it's best to leave the children with a babysitter because no one under the age of 21 is allowed in the casinos. The casinos offer plenty of excitement - just don't get addicted to playing the slot machines or play one too many games of poker. Nevertheless, Las Vegas and the surrounding areas are chock full of things to do, such as a tour of the Hoover Dam. And, on the plus side, with all the revenue coming in from the casinos, Las Vegas travel accommodations and the countless means of entertainment you won't have to empty your wallet.

4.) Phoenix, Arizona - Yet another hot (quite literally) top summer destination, Phoenix offers plenty of fun to be had. You will be thankful for the numerous low-priced hotels and resorts, and for the swimming pools at those resorts. Take some time out to drive around and view the beautiful desert scenery and mountain backdrop. Take an inexpensive tour of the Desert Botanical Gardens and see the lush plant life that the desert holds. Drive down to Tucson to visit Old Tucson Studios and see where many of the most famous Cowboy/Western movies were filmed. Browse through gorgeous handmade Native American arts and crafts at one of Phoenix's several Indian markets. There's much more to Phoenix than meets the eye.

5.) Tampa, Florida - Tampa offers some deep discounts during the summer since its most popular tourist season is during the winter. Take advantage of the low prices and beautiful beaches and have the time of your life at a must-see travel destination. Score cheap tickets to a Tampa Bay Devil Rays baseball game. Chow down on delicious burgers at the Hard Rock Cafe. Spend as much time as you want on any of Tampa's free public beaches. Not only will you leave Tampa with an awesome tan, but you will have a blast!

6.) Los Angeles, California - Sun, celebrities, concerts, shopping, surfing, and fun! Need I say more? Go see the Hollywood Walk of Fame where so many stars have placed their hand and footprints. Go on a trolley tour of celebrities' homes in Beverly Hills. Take a thrilling drive down Mullholland Drive. View the entire city from on top of one of the several mountains. Dance the night away at one of L.A.'s plentiful night clubs. Drive down to the coast and stare in awe at the majesty of the Pacific Ocean. Perhaps the sheer thrill of possibly meeting a celebrity is enough for you. Whatever the case may be, Los Angeles is most definitely a must-see travel destination, and contrary to popular belief, it's quite feasible to have an entire L.A. vacation on a budget.

7.) New York, New York - Yes, believe it or not, even New York City can be seen on a low budget. There is so much to see in New York: Broadway plays, the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, the Museum of Natural History, Chinatown, Greenwich Village, the Saturday Night Live studios. The list is nearly endless! Remember to check for matinee tickets to shows, group discounts (if you are traveling with friends and family) to the Museum, daytime baseball games, and many other sights to see that are low-cost or totally free. Book your hotel room several weeks in advance to get the best price.

8.) San Francisco, California - Go take a peek at the awesome sight of the Golden Gate Bridge. Enjoy the wonderful Bay weather, because even in the height of summer, San Francisco rarely has temperatures above 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Ride the trolley through downtown San Francisco and the Historic District and glimpse the lovely Victorian-era architecture. Stand at the famous Haight and Ashbury Street intersection. Sample incredible food in the open marketplace at the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market. Stop by the San Francisco Art Institute to see some student work showcased and to glimpse some Moorish architecture. Whatever tickles your fancy, you are sure to find it in San Francisco!

9.) New Orleans, Louisiana - Since Hurricane Katrina, tourism has been at an all time low for New Orleans. It is slowly picking back up, but the Big Easy needs your help. Mosey on down to New Orleans for a memorable trip to one of the most unique cities in this entire country. Not only will you be helping the locals rebuild with the business you bring in, you can have a wonderfully fun time for very little money. Stop into any Cajun or Creole restaurant in New Orleans to taste some of the best food in the entire Southern United States. Creole cooking is a delicious taste that you won't soon forget. Go to the Mardi Gras World factory for an off-season, up close look at Mardi Gras behind the scenes -- and it's open all year round. For those of you that are into the spooky side of New Orleans, there are low-cost "vampire tours" that go all throughout the French Quarter, speaking of vampire legends along the way. You can also drop into Marie LaVeau's House of Voodoo for a look at authentic hoodoo and occult supplies and books. Make sure to visit New Orleans during its "off season" times during the summer to find the best deals on hotels and plane tickets. Mardi Gras (in March), Jazz Fest (May), and Halloween are the busiest tourist seasons for New Orleans.

10.) Chicago, Illinois - Last on the list of top ten must-see travel destinations is the Windy City. If you love music, and especially blues, then Chicago is a must-visit destination during June -- for that is when Chicago Blues Fest begins. Other spectacular summer fun during June in Chicago would be the enormous outdoor food extravaganza, called "Tastes of Chicago." Tickets for the huge food festival are wonderfully cheap, especially considering the vast quantities and varieties of food available at Tastes of Chicago.

Another huge, and free, attraction to visit in Chicago would be the public beaches along Lake Michigan. Take advantage of the refreshing lake breeze to cool down from the summer heat. Don't forget to check out one local cuisine that Chicago is famous for - Chicago style pizza! One more free attraction would be the famous Sears Tower. Whatever the Windy City holds for you, make sure you don't get blown away!

Thus concludes my list of the top ten must-see travel destinations for summer 2009. Not only are they tons of fun to visit, but these destinations are perfect for people who have to travel on a budget. Make sure to book all your reservations in advance and search for special deals and coupons online. Also search around for any free tours or discounts to special events at the destination of your choice. And don't worry - even in a recession, you can budget for travel to great places, and have yourself an adventure.

Global Warming - Will God Help Us Solve The Problem?

Orange Groves on the East coast, Palm trees in New Jersey, where is God's hand in all of this? Are we going to end up like a bunch of fried Bananas?

According to the latest scientific evidence revealed by ABC News and featured in Time Magazine recently, the world we live in may be warming at a dangerously rapid rate due to an increase in greenhouse gas emissions, carbon dioxide, and other man made pollutants. Glaciers are melting and our shorelines are in danger of being overrun by water. What else would they be overrun with? At the same time, the sun it is hypothesized, is dying. Well, which is it, are we going to burn up or freeze to death?

Climate change is out of the closet and no longer the stepchild of a minority of do-good environmentalists. Today almost everybody is worried about global warming. What is so bad about things heating up? Are people worried that we are creating an environment more friendly to the devil than to God? I for one am not worried about it. I have faith that God will come to our rescue and save us from ourselves. We may be the cause of carbon emissions, but God is the source of all carbon elements. Thank God for God. Where would we carbon-based elements be without God's inspiration?

What would be so bad about having fresh orange groves or banana plants growing in New York? Perhaps they could supply the fresh juice some Eastern liberal establishments need to develop a more centered philosophy on the environment as it relates to the economics of an expanding gross national product due to the fruits of our labor. Although over the last fifty years the East has been cooler and the West warmer. There is no evidence to suggest that this anomaly is part of an Eastern liberal conspiracy against the conservative leanings of our heartland or that the trend won't reverse itself, but then there is no evidence to the contrary. On the other hand if we burn up or freeze to death what will it matter? Who is going to be around to enjoy a man made prosperity whatever the political origins of the underlying economic boom are?

I think it's all a matter of allowing evolution to take place under God's good grace. Let's not underestimate God's grand design or His capacity to reinvigorate and keep our environment safe for all of humanity. As even the most brilliant of scientists will admit, there are some things we just don't understand. I believe that there are some things we just have to take on faith.

I was wondering the other day what would be so terrible if the average temperature in the world increased by fifteen degrees over a ten-year period of time. This would mean that in some places we could fry eggs on the sidewalk without the benefit of using cooking gas or electric ovens. Stop and think about how much fuel consumption this warming trend would save.. How much could we then reduce heating fuel emissions into the atmosphere by burning less fossil fuel? Maybe global warming is a self-correcting problem. What would be so bad about having palm trees and coconuts grow in New Jersey. I love coconuts. And as far as our shore lines eroding, I thought we could all use more water to help make the planet flourish. Maybe this is God's way of improving our natural habitat so that it will offer us a more human friendly environment to say nothing of the aquatic wonders it might do for the diminishing swarms of fish we use to feed ourselves with.

Now lets turn to this big deal people are making about a hole forming in the stratosphere or the ionosphere -- I always get my spheres of influence mixed up -- and the potential danger that ozone depletion in the atmosphere poses to human life due to ultra violet ray poisoning etcetera. Maybe it is time some of us grow a thicker skin and stop worrying about the effect of climate changes in the atmosphere that only God can control. Let's not forget the potential of the Sun dying. Although none of us reading this article will be around to see it happen, I sure have a ray of hope and do believe that God has taken that possibility into account. Again I am not worried. I firmly believe that God has the capacity to effect change. I hope and pray that my great, great, great, great grandchildren are around to experience the kindness and mercy of His actions.

I think we would all be better served to worry about the catastrophic consequences that nuclear annihilation poses to our society. If we don't stop nuclear proliferation we may all end up living on oranges, coconuts, and bananas again. That would surely eliminate the freezone emissions from refrigerators and automobile air conditioners, but would definitely put a crimp in any travel arrangements we had in mind in our gas guzzling SUVs as well as eliminate the need for food storage except possibly in caves. Is the return of the primitive within us just around the corner?

At the risk of sounding glib, what's to worry? We are all in God's hands. Whatever happens it is His will. I do think that there is a chance that God will give us the inspiration to see the error of our ways before it becomes necessary for Him to make all the adjustments necessary for our survival Himself. Have you thought about asking God how hot it is going to get around here before we come to our senses and start protecting our environment not only from global warming, but also from the threat of nuclear devastation?

Mitigate Your Corporate Travel Risks!

Corporations are coming under more and more scrutiny in looking after the welfare of their travelling employees. Arguments on whether this is a moral or legal responsibility, how much information is necessary and where is that information going to be obtained is becoming a hot topic in boardrooms around the world with a definite emphasis on North American businesses who have, in the past, been considered to be callous about overall employee safety. Corporate Governance is now a board level committee, employee safety being a key component.
Is it okay to send travelers to other parts of the world without providing them adequate up-to-date information on possible political and weather related disasters that could occur on their arrival and during their stay? Is it acceptable to arbitrarily send travelers off to distance lands without the quick and efficient ability to determine where they are and advise them of possible upcoming events? Likewise what information about a traveler's location and whereabouts should a company have available to them in the event of a family or other emergency back home?
Obtaining current information on the status of any country, be it political or weather related could and would require an information network that most companies do not want the expense of maintaining nor are really capably of implementing. Coupled with that is the need for an information system that would easily provide the locations and whereabouts of all travelers at any specific moment in time. The need to find a traveler could easily occur on weekends and evenings, outside of a company's normal business hours. Once a company determines that it is in everybody's best interests, company and traveler alike, to have this information, the question becomes how can a company acquire and maintain this much needed information, economically?
Travel management companies such as Navigant provide their clients and their clients' travelers with access to up-to-the-minute information on current and potential travel situations and threats. Coupled with this service is the ability to accurately pinpoint the location of all or any specific traveler worldwide, in seconds, through a proprietary online tool.
Navigant, with its global network, operating in more than 1,000 locations in 65 countries has the ability to support clients and the clients' travelers in the event of any political or natural disaster. As a Navigant client, the travel advisory and traveler locator services are just a small part of the overall benefits that a company receives that are redefining travel management, and leading to higher business performance.
As a Company or as a traveler you can put your trust in Navigant to keep you informed and safe!

The Effects Of Global Warming - How To Live With Them.

Many effects of global warming are with us now. Rising temperatures and ocean levels. Melting glaciers and polar ice.

But do you know what these will mean to you? Or to your children?

And what you can do. You, tiny individual among 6 billion people.

Perhaps if we all had a clearer idea about the effects in our daily lives, we would try to do more about global warming. I am betting that more knowledge on this subject is a good thing, despite its shock-and-awe effects.

So, read on you brave learner!

Briefly, the effects of global warming include these:

* Extreme weather

* Rising oceans

* Food and water resources

* Human health

* Economic

* War and conflicts, and

* Further global warming

And each effect affects another, closely connected to the Earth's web of life.

Do you know that today's average surface temperature is up by about half a degree Celcius compared to temperatures in 1890? "Half a degree!" you exclaim. So what?

Well, if half a degree has the power to melt all the glaciers on five continents, as it is doing now, then what would the prediction of about five degrees by the end of this century mean to your daily life?

But you do not live near any glaciers you say. OK. Consider this:

Glaciers are the source of many of the great rivers that keep crops irrigated, provide water for drinking and washing and let you enjoy fishing and swimming.

"But I live in a city and when I want water I open a tap. For swimming I have the bath and as far as fishing is concerned there's the local fish shop!"

Right, I see. It is difficult to get you to feel uncomfortable with effects of global warming.

How about this then.

Many organisations are concerned about the effects. The UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change predicts as most likely a 3C rise in global surface temperature by 2050. The UK's chief scientific advisor Professor King has warned that such a rise would put some 400 million people at risk of starvation. Even the Pentagon, that least of all greenie organisations, wrote a report in 2004 that highlighted predictions of

* Severe water shortages

* Severe energy shortages

* Mega droughts and floods

* Nuclear conflict,

* Famine

* Widespread rioting

* Wars over water and energy resources

* At 150 million migrating environmental refugees

And these are suggested to occur in the next 20 years. Not too far away is it? Got your attention now?

These effects would be felt everywhere - even by city dwellers who have forgotten what a cow looks like.

Overwhelmed? Understandable, but don't be. Mother Earth needs all the practical people like you who commit themselves to action.

There are two levels at which you can do that. Change the way you think and do something every day. No matter how small.

Change the way you think.

We are in this mess because we have come to believe that there are no limits to energy resources and whatever the Earth can provide. Progress is about material things rather than how we get on - with ourselves, with others and with our environments.

Einstein said that you cannot solve problems with the same thinking that caused them. True. To change our ingrained thinking a practical step would be to engage with people who know how to live well under highly challenging circumstances. To build positive relationships with them would help.

Who are they then?

People with disabilities and frail aged people often know how to live a sustainable, even a flourishing life, despite their vulnerable situation. They have learned that our world is interdependent and wellbeing is made through getting on well with others.

So, come on. Make a far-travelling ripple in the pond by throwing your pebble of direct action today, whenever it crosses your path. Give someone a hand, a smile or a chat. It will change your mindset and may prove the Pentagon wrong on some scores at least if enough of us do that.

Make some practical changes

Small acts can have big results.

For example if everyone changed just one traditional 75W light bulb for an 18W compact fluorescent one for four hours a day this small action could reduce greenhouse emissions by millions of tonnes annually. Just 100,000 tonnes is equivalent to taking some 22,000 cars off the road!

So this act causes real ripples.

What else? Let's see.

* Dress warmly and turn your thermostat down a degree on cold days

* Close your blinds to keep the sun out on hot days

* Turn off lights when you do not need them

* Turn the computer off when not in use

* Walk or cycle rather than take the car

* Use public transport

* Buy an energy-efficient car

* Insist on energy-efficient housing design

* Reduce your shower time - or shower together (Mmm, well that may be counter productive)

* Buy energy-efficient rated appliances. And...

* Use your creativity to save energy where you can. There is so much you can do to reduce further global warming.

Over to you.
Let it ripple!

Long Beach Airport Free Wi-fi 'Hot Zone' Featuring Local Travel Portal Developed by G-site Web Officially Launches

LONG BEACH, CA. June 2003 โ€" Travelers arriving, departing, waiting or connecting at the Long Beach Airport will now be able to become more familiar with Long Beach, California.

G-site Web, working with the City of Long Beach, Long Beach Airport, JetBlue and The Press Telegram has developed a Long Beach focused and comprehensive travel-oriented airport wireless portal utilizing cross-platform database outputs from JetBlue, The Press Telegram and other content sources. Coordinating the project on behalf of the City of Long Beach, G-site's airport portal features real-time local news, national news, world news, sports and business headlines provided by The Press Telegram โ€" a Long Beach based regional news media organization. Another highlight of the airport portal is the incorporation of JetBlue's real time arrival and departure schedule.

Utilizing a creative combination of programming methods and cooperation from the IT departments of JetBlue and the Press Telegram, G-site's portal captures content data from multiple platforms located on off-premises servers. That data is then automatically re-formatted and integrated directly into the airport portal. Automated โ€œdata-miningโ€ releases portal operators from the costly task of constantly updating content while giving portal visitors fresh โ€œup to dateโ€ content โ€œon the fly.โ€ โ€œVisionary Long Beach personnel and leaders have allowed us to develop our ideas and incorporate them into this comprehensive package,โ€ says G-site founder Lorenzo Gigliotti. Another portal feature is an exportable real-time local event calendar, which allows organizations, businesses and the City to promote special events in a unified private-public calendar. One simple line of code can import the calendar into any website.

G-site has also included its own award winning LongBeachOnLine.net Search Engine Database (LBOL.net). The LBOL.net Search Engine is a Long Beach focused database, which is designed specifically to showcase the websites of Long Beach businesses and entertainment venues, as well as local schools, artists and organizations. It is a free service.

Portal advertising is available. Businesses may contact the Long Beach Economic Development Bureau for advertising rates. The Airport Hot Zone Portal may be viewed on the web by visiting www.LongBeachPortals.com

The Long Beach Airport WiFi โ€œHot Zoneโ€ goes live this month. Visitors utilizing this free WiFi โ€œHot Zoneโ€ will see the airport portal automatically when they log on. The โ€œHot Zoneโ€ is a partnership consisting of the City of Long Beach, Intermec, Vernier, Color Broadband, Development Tech and G-site Web.

G-site is a privately owned, award winning, Long Beach web development, technology and consulting firm. G-site has developed numerous municipal projects, private/public portals and corporate intranets. G-site has also supplied advanced consulting and programming services to other local and global web design companies. Company founder, Lorenzo Gigliotti is a long time Long Beach resident and a member of numerous technology and non-profit organizations.
